The Comprehensive School Counseling Program
The premise of a comprehensive school counseling program is preventative in composition, proactive in service presentation, and reactive when needed for the safety and well-being of all students.
At Morgan Elementary, we follow a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS), with Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to formulate a Comprehensive School Counseling Program that enhances an inspiring and supportive academic experience (Ziomek-Daigle et al., 2016). The design and implementation of such a program allows us to encourage academic achievement with career awareness, social understanding, emotional peace, and behavioral success (Ziomek-Daigle et al., 2016). With MTSS in place, your student is provided with a team of advocates to include family, teaching staff, school administration, and pertinent stakeholders to ensure their academic completion, career appreciation, and social-emotional and behavioral maturation.
The Comprehensive School Counselor through Tiered Interventions of Support
- Tier 1 ... Provided to all students on campus. (ex: whole group guidance lessons, PBIS awards and celebrations, and the Character Counts initiative)
- Tier 2 ... Provided to students needing additional support. (ex: small group guidance lessons, check-in/check-out systems, and social stories)
- Tier 3 ... Provided to individual students needing one-on-one intervention and support. (ex: individual guidance lessons, individual counseling sessions, and individual goal-setting)
*Note: The examples above are interventions provided at Morgan Elementary; though there are a number of additional interventions used at Morgan as well. Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions are situationally centered around the needs of the student/s.
