In alignment with the LCISD and Morgan Elementary vision and mission, my counseling philosophy is for students to be empowered and motivated to achieve their goals and overcome obstacles in a safe and supportive environment. In harmony with Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), I believe that all students deserve respect, empathy, and compassion to guide them toward the solutions that are most comfortable for them. SFBT was developed by Steve de Shazer, Insoo Kim Berg, and their colleagues in the 1980's at the Milwaukee Brief Family Therapy Center (Zak & Pekala, 2024). With SFBT, the student/s and I can work together to co-construct possible and manageable resolutions to current troubles or setbacks in a timely manner that allows students to promptly return to the academic classroom. Solutions are always based on the student's existing personal strengths and available resources. (Zak & Pekala, 2024). Through the comprehensive counseling program, with proactive classroom guidance lessons, grade-level assemblies, and whole school initiatives, students will achieve the greatness they dream of achieving.
